Step back in time on a hayride through Washington’s historic cemeteries as the Fayette County Historical Society brings the stories of 12 fascinating local figures to life.
The Fayette County Historical Society will again host the Washington Cemeteries tours on Sept 26, 2026 from 3 PM to 7 PM.
The event which honors the lives and accomplishments of local historic figures and will again depart the Fayette County Commission on Aging on 1179 S. Elm St. and transport those attending on hay ride type wagons. This year twelve all NEW honorees will be featured and the tours will be expanded into the St. Coleman Catholic Cemetery where two of the twelve are interred, with the reminder in the adjacent Washington Cemetery. Narrators will discuss the historic individual buried at each stop. Information on those to be honored will be available on the Society’s Facebook page in the days leading up to the event. The tours will last approximately 60 minutes, returning to the parking lot at the Commission on Aging. Refreshments will be available.
The Historical Society wishes to note that deep respect will always be practiced at each grave location.
This year the event is starting slightly earlier and all tickets will be reserved for a particular time period to prevent long wait times. Tickets will be $12 Pre-Sale and $15 the day of the event. Children age 10 and under are free. Pre-sale tickets are by credit card only utilizing a QR code. You will choose the time period when purchasing. If you prefer a specific time slot, purchase early! This event has gained popularity each year. All proceeds go to the Fayette County Museum. Your support is greatly appreciated.
